Chromatic Adaptation and Illuminant Estimation
نویسنده
چکیده
Chromatic Adaptation is the ability of the human visual system to approximately preserve the appearance of an object color, no matter which light “color” illuminates a particular scene. We perceive a white piece of paper as white, regardless whether viewed under a bluish daylight or yellowish tungsten light source. Similar effects can be observed with other color hues. Figure 1 illustrates this visual phenomenon. The left image is the same image as the middle image, except that it is overlayed by a bluish filter. While the image seems to have a color cast, i.e. we perceive all the colors to be too blue, we still can clearly identify the original hues. For example, the helmet still appears yellowish. In the right image, the filter was just overlayed on the helmet, which now appears greenish.

Compensation of De-saturation Effect in HDR Images Based on Real Scene Adaptation Analysis
Chromatic adaptation transform is used to many color appearance models. Also, the iCAM06 model, a highdynamic range (HDR) rendering process contains chromatic adaptation and is based on the CIECAM02 model. The D factor or degree of adaptation in chromatic adaptation of the iCAM06 model is the function of surround luminance or adapting luminance level, but does not consider visual white point sh...

This paper analyzes the effects of the application of visual adaptation mechanisms on snapshot-based guidance methods. The guidance principle of the visual homing is proven to be a visual potential function with an equilibrium point located at the goal position. The presence of a potential function means that classical control theory principles based on the Lyapunov functions can be applied to ...
متن کاملThe Role of Layered Scene Representations in Color Appearance
The chromatic appearance of a surface depends on its surrounding scene. A variety of mechanisms have been proposed to account for such phenomena, ranging from low-level gain control or adaptation processes that adjust for such properties as a scene's chromatic mean and covariance structure, to higher-level computations that compensate for the chromatic content of the illuminant. Despite their d...
متن کاملSpectral Sharpening and the Bradford Transform
The Bradford chromatic adaptation transform, empirically derived by Lam [1], models illumination change. Specifically, it provides a means of mapping XYZs under a reference source to XYZs for a target light such that the corresponding XYZs produce the same perceived colour. One implication of the Bradford chromatic adaptation transform is that colour correction for illumination takes place not ...

In this paper, two new von Kries based chromatic adaptation transforms are proposed. The numerical optimization procedure adopted for deriving them simultaneously exploits the whole sets of data available and the existing chromatic adaptation transforms. Experimental results report several statistics to prove the effectiveness of our proposals with respect to the state-of-the-art. INTRODUCTION ...
